Is your child having trouble going to sleep and/or staying asleep? Has there been an incident of trauma in his/her life? If so, there is a good article to read from The Child Trauma Academy to help you as a parent understand the correlation between the trauma a child has experienced and having interrupted sleep patterns.
While children are traumatized when there is physical or sexual abuse, they are also traumatized when there is neglect such as having a parent who has been using illegal drugs or drinking excessively. Children can also be traumatized by witnessing parents yell or fight physically in front of them, or even when they’re in the next room. Losing a parent to separation/divorce or death can also cause trauma to a child. Being in an automobile accident or similar trauma can also have a negative effect.
