About Robert Ponce
“I believe that every person has the capacity to heal, grow, and change.”
Hello! I’m Robert.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker #88037
We as people are all broken on some level, but we don’t need to stay that way. Depending upon the cards we have been dealt in life, what’s been done to us, and what we’ve done to ourselves, many of us develop fractures in our view of the world. These “fractures” affect how we view ourselves and our relationships. No matter what you are going through at this stage in life, you don’t need to struggle alone. There is hope! Whether you’re dealing with relationship issues, career problems, abuse, anxiety, depression, or self-destructive habits, change is possible. I believe that every person has the capacity to heal, grow, and change. My desire is to help people in their time of need. And, I would embrace the opportunity to help you work through any challenges or obstacles you currently face.
Finally, I am the father of four boys, ranging in developmental stages from daycare to high school, and have been married for eighteen years. I understand the joys and challenges of being both a spouse and parent. In my spare time, I enjoy coaching youth sports. It combines my two passions: Sports and interacting with children. Whether on a court, field, or diamond, I love teaching boys that hard work does pay off.
My Approach & Values
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral and Narrative therapies. Everyone’s situation is unique. Therefore, I do not have a “one size fits all” approach. To ensure maximum therapeutic success, I personalize every session to fit your specific needs. My broad experience enables me to help people with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, opposition/defiant disorders, adjustment disorders, mood disorders, communication challenges, as well as relationship issues of all types.
Before becoming a therapist at Chico Creek Counseling, I worked in a local nonprofit mental health agency supporting families, children, and adolescents. Prior to my work in the mental health field, I was a law enforcement officer for 10 years. My work experience has given me the opportunity to collaborate well with different entities including school districts, children’s services, county mental health departments, foster care agencies, and law enforcement. I understand how these complex systems impact and influence the lives of individuals and families. Additionally, I have worked extensively with parents, caregivers, and children to help enhance their relationships and to learn positive ways to interact with each other.
I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from California State University, Chico, and my Master’s Degree in Social Work from California State University of Sacramento.
