What is PCIT?
Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a successful parent-child treatment program for parents who have children with behavioral problems (ie: aggression, defiance, and emotional outbursts) and has been proven to be effective in over 100 research studies. Its focus is to improve the quality of the parent-child relationship by promoting positive interactions between them and teaching parents positive child management skills.
There are two components to the PCIT program. In the Relationship Enhancement phase, therapists teach and coach parents to decrease negative aspects of their relationship with their child by developing consistent, positive, and supportive communication. In the Strategies to Improve Compliance phase, therapists teach and coach parents effective and positive child management skills.
Is PCIT right for me and my child?
If you are a parent who is overwhelmed and/or confused about how to deal with your child(ren)’s challenging behaviors, and your child is between the ages of 2 -7, PCIT might be the right fit for you.
