About Lynn Hinkley

“The part can never be well if the whole is not well.” -Plato

Hello! I’m Lynn.

Associate Clinical Social Worker #93880

As an Associate Clinical Social Worker, my goal is to help anyone who struggles with issues in life that may be causing doubt, confusion, and uncertainty about what to do next. I believe that part of addressing any difficulties starts with taking care of the many aspects of the whole self in order to reduce emotional and physical pain that can result from trauma or any number of life challenges. You are the architect of your life and I am passionate about helping you expand your toolbox so you may build the life you want for yourself and create peace and calm from within. Together we can come up with a plan for making it happen. My approach to counseling is rooted in the belief that people are the experts about themselves, and my role is to help them recognize the strengths, talents, and awesomeness that already exists in them which many times gets overlooked. Assisting someone with finding a way to tap into those attributes is what drives me and why I enjoy counseling so much. Outside work, I am an avid reader, and I love to travel. My other big passion is nutrition, cooking, recipes, and restaurants – I can just have long conversations about food in general! I enjoy spending time with family, and I can’t imagine a day without music filling my ears. I grew up in southern California and then moved around a lot since my husband was a Marine. As a result, I have some first-hand experience with the challenges of military life, including raising our daughter in the midst of it all. We now call Chico home (since late 2019) and love being here.

My Approach & Values

Since 2017 I have been working with adults of all ages experiencing mental health disorders such as Depressive, Anxiety, Bipolar, Borderline Personality, Schizophrenia Spectrum, Post-traumatic Stress, and Dissociative Identity, as well as those co-occurring with substance use disorders. I have utilized several modes of therapy including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, as well as incorporating methods of taking care of the whole self through nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, and play.

I have been a counselor for nearly 4 years, and during that time I worked at an Intensive Outpatient Program for adults with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. I have also worked within a Partial Hospitalization Program that assisted those transitioning from the hospital, after experiencing a crisis, to lower levels of care. At both programs, I facilitated group therapy, provided psychoeducation, and worked individually with clients to help them achieve stabilization, work on their goals for increasing daily functioning, and learn how to navigate the challenges of mental health disorders to achieve long-term balance.

I obtained my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Arizona State University in 2017. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Arizona State University, and I have my Associate’s degree in Dietetic Technology; this also allows me to hold a nutrition credential (Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered, or NDTR) under which I have the ability to teach nutrition principles and strategies, as well as healthy lifestyle practices.
