Hello! I’m Lilli Bentley.
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #119162
It is easy to become stuck in unfavorable coping patterns, which become “blueprints” for our behavior. Thankfully, brain research proves our capacity to heal and transform these ingrained blueprints. In sessions, I’ll focus on helping you to create new, healthy patterns of thought and engagement to build the life you desire. Together we will work on strategies to create emotional strength that will continue to be resilient to life’s struggles. I hold that we can walk this journey together to challenge behaviors, to heal from trauma, and emotional/attachment wounding. My aim is to promote positive and lasting life changes as we work together through this difficult process. Trauma wounding is the result of bad experiences that happen, while attachment-wounding is the result of important good experiences that didn’t happen as a child. Both of these life circumstances can lead to the predictable emotional turmoil that intrudes on relationships, occupations, and well-being. Symptoms may include depression, anxiety, anger, inability to concentrate, and more. My heart is to help clients to overcome these obstacles they are facing. I feel honored to be fully present with my clients, to create a sacred and safe place for trauma processing, and to witness the emotional freedom that emerges when clients are able to move forward from the past and engage fully in life. I value intuition, creativity, perseverance, and humor in my personal life and as a therapist. A dose of laughter creates balance in life. I also practice meditation and mindfulness. As a Chico local since 1981, I feel deeply rooted in this community where my husband and I raised our family. I enjoy grandchildren, friends, gardening, walks, art, and music. I consider myself a life-long learner and love my field of work.
My Approach & Values
My unique mental health training at Western Seminary emphasized faith as a vital source of strength. I am trained to integrate Christian faith into counseling if this is desired. Often, existential questions of meaning and purpose arise in discussions with clients. I am comfortable exploring these questions together and I support diverse beliefs.
I am trauma-informed and trained in EMDR and Brainspotting. My training experience also includes Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DMNS) to prepare attachment-wounded adults with dissociation for EMDR processing. Additional training includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression. At this time, I work with adults and adolescents of various ages through Telehealth therapy from the convenience, safety, and comfort of your own home. I work with clients experiencing symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, relationship issues and wounding, life adjustments, and more. At a future date, I will resume in-office sessions and see children in which I utilize play therapy and sand tray therapy.
