About Ellie McMann
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood. – Fred Rogers
Hello! I’m Ellie.
Associate Clinical Social Worker #85229
Hi there! My name is Ellie, and I’m an Associate Clinical Social Worker. I’ve lived in Chico since July 2017, and have fallen in love with the town and its community. In my free time, I enjoy hiking with my dog, kickboxing, and doing yoga.
Taking the step to begin or return to counseling can very difficult. I believe in creating an environment where you feel safe and comfortable in working through the troubles in life. In counseling with clients, I prefer to take a client-centered approach, allowing the client to guide the sessions and focus on the topics they are ready to work on, as they are ready to work on them. Therapy is an ever-evolving field and I do my best to be aware of the most recent research and evidence-based treatment modalities. When working with children I take a primarily play-based approach. Play is the language of children, and using play in the therapeutic environment allows children a place to play and process through their trauma and difficult experiences in a safe and reflective way. When working with adults I prefer to take a primarily body-based approach, encouraging the use of alternative treatments such as yoga, mindfulness, and meditation.
