About Brooke Hammond

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hello! I’m Brooke.

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #121528

Welcome! My name is Brooke, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I earned my Master’s Degree from Chico State University, in Marriage and Family Therapy. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Jose State University. I am deeply passionate about working with adult clients who have experienced trauma and childhood attachment wounds. I also enjoy working with couples and assisting couples in developing a mindful and conscious commitment to understanding and supporting one another. I take a person-centered approach to counseling, and I believe in my heart that every person can benefit from counseling. For some, therapy is a long journey and for others, it is a smaller endeavor to help arrive at their next chapter. I understand each person will need something different from counseling and I work diligently to tailor sessions to fit each person’s unique needs. It is my biggest hope that all of my clients are able to see their value and know they are worthy of growth and joy.

When I am not at work I enjoy reading, hiking, swimming, bike riding, cooking new recipes, and spending time with my partner and family. Chico is my home and I feel very lucky to live and work in this beautiful place!

My Approach & Values

I am currently seeing adults and couples, of all ages and gender orientations. I am an LGBTQIA-friendly therapist and will advocate for all of the individuals I see. The root of my practice is focused on helping my clients process trauma, build self-confidence, build shame resiliency, heal, grow, and reconnect with themselves.

I use Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, (EMDR) Therapy with adult clients who have experienced trauma, and who are interested in re-processing past distressing memories. I use Emotion Focused Therapy, (EFT) with couples, which focuses on emotional communication and attachment building. I also incorporate mindfulness, psychoeducation, boundaries work, family systems theory, and narrative theory into my practice.
