Our Story

Chico Creek Counseling was started in 2010 by Joe Taylor with the goal of creating a group practice where a variety of therapy needs were provided by one practice; a place where a client could easily be referred to a therapist who met their counseling needs. Beginning as a single Marriage and Family Therapy practice, Chico Creek Counseling has continuously grown, moving between several larger office spaces and hiring new therapists as growth continued.

Since its inception, Chico Creek Counseling has spread to two Chico offices and more than twenty therapists with a wide range of skillsets and focuses, guaranteeing you the best possible care for your mental health needs. Even now, we strive to grow and improve every aspect of Chico Creek Counseling by integrating modern counseling strategies and business practices.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment?

Give us a call at (530) 410-0505 for a free consultation. The consultation will help match you to the ideal therapist. Your first appointment will be scheduled once you are matched with a therapist.

How do I know if I'm ready for counseling?

Going to therapy is an important personal decision. You may be ready If you feel unlike yourself, feel like your afflictions are taking more than an hour of your day, have trouble maintaining relationships, or have experienced loss or trauma. High or uncomfortably varying levels of emotion and intrusive thoughts are other good indicators.

What are your hours?

Regular business hours are Monday through Friday 9am-5pm, but some therapists may be willing to meet outside the regular hours.

How often do I meet with my therapist?

Typically, meetings happen once a week or once every two weeks depending on the needs of the client. If you feel you need to meet more often, you can discuss increased meeting times with your counselor.

I am currently using (or am considering) medication. Can therapy help me?

Medication is often more effective when coupled with talk therapy, due to therapy creating coping mechanisms that last long after medication stops.

How long does counseling last?

The length of your counseling journey is ultimately up to you and your counselor. Depending on your needs, you could see a therapist for 5-10 sessions for mild needs or 6+ months for more significant afflictions.

Can I do therapy online?

We offer online therapy through TeleHealth. If you'd prefer to meet online, make sure to mention it in your consultation call.
