Check out this article from The Children and Youth Services Review. It’s written by Susan Timmer, Anthony Urquiza, and Nancy Zebell. Dr. Zebell and her colleague Dr McGrath were Joe’s trainers at UC Davis Med Center, C.A.A.R.E. Unit when he was first learning PCIT in 2002. While the article is directed at the effectiveness of PCIT with children in foster care, you may want to skip all that and scroll down to paragraph 1.3 entitled Parent Child Interaction Therapy. It describes (in somewhat academic terms) the process of PCIT. If you’re really into documentation about the effectiveness of PCIT, be sure to read the last two paragraphs of this section. It gives a list of several studies by research psychologists on the subject.
